Look at What these Nice people Had to Say!
I trained by myself and ran a half marathon two years ago. After struggling to finish I had three immediate thoughts: 1. I did it! 2. I don't have anyone to celebrate with. (people were buddied up everywhere). 3. I want to do a full but with the PAIN IN MY KNEE there is no way I could go that distance. It took me quite a bit of time to recover from that experience. My knee hurt so bad I could barely walk the following week. I really did want to do better so I connected with Tim and Mindy at OPT. I joined Mindy's run group and worked with Tim to determine where my knee pain was coming from and how I could overcome it. I am reminded of all this because a couple of Saturdays ago as part of the full marathon training I am currently doing with Mindy, we ran 20 miles. Not only did I finish with NO PAIN whatsoever in my knee my pace was around a 9 minute mile and I recovered quickly and was running again that Monday. I am faster and stronger and felt better running 20 miles than I did running 13 a couple of years ago. This is all thanks to the coaching, community and expertise of Tim and Mindy. I feel confident I will run a good marathon and when I finish this spring I will be thinking...I did it, There's my run group to celebrate with and the only pain I will feel will be the "good kind" that comes from putting it out there and working hard and not the debilitating kind I had before.

"When Mindy first agreed to train me to run my first 5K, she had quite a daunting task on her hands. I had never come close to running 3.1 miles, and many of my previous attempts at running left me gasping for breath before I hit the 1 mile mark. I had a good excuse – I was born with a bum lung, and 3-1/2 years ago at age 30, I had over half my left lung removed. I started training with Mindy fresh off a check-up with my doctor, when he confirmed again that I have 56% lung capacity for my height and weight – I function with barely more than 1 lung!
Mindy never doubted that we would reach my goal of running a 5K, and her training style, coupled with her always positive and reinforcing attitude, made me always believe we would get there too. Mindy assessed a good starting point for me, broke the distance down, and developed a program of simple progressions to get me to my goal. Even though the long term goal sometimes seemed absurdly far away, Mindy kept me focused on small, short-term goals that incrementally added up in such a big way!
Yesterday, after less than 3-1/2 months of training, I ran the Free to Breathe 5K in Raleigh! While my pace was slow, I did not walk. I had Mindy by my side for the run, and my family at the finish line. I cannot put into words what crossing that finish line meant to me after the journey I’ve been on with my lungs.
I highly recommend Mindy as a trainer! While Mindy is an accomplished runner herself, she owned my 5K goal like it was her own. Her knowledge of the sport and her dedication to my success helped me reach my goal faster than I ever anticipated. I could not have asked for more from my sessions. Thanks to Mindy, I even understand how running can be relaxing and fun!"

“I began working with Mindy in February 2009. Mindy has made my workouts more productive. She is patient with me during our training sessions. She teaches the correct way to do the exercises so I will not injure myself. Mindy stresses the importance of doing the exercise correctly so I get the most impact from the workouts and hopefully avoid injury. She explains what particular muscle group I am targeting and how the exercise will impact my overall fitness.
I have never been a fitness buff but have gone through spurts of fitness awareness. My workouts before Mindy consisted of walking on treadmills concentrating on my aerobic fitness rather than my total body. Now Mindy has me working with a stability ball, free weights, ropes and the aerobic step. There is always something new to learn and the constant challenge of maintaining good form. I am amazed at how much better I feel and how much more energy I have since my workout began in February 09. I highly recommend Mindy as a personal trainer. She listens to her clients and structures the workouts to the clients needs. If I could I would workout with Mindy five days a week. She is that good!”

"Tim is a special personal trainer. His thirst for knowledge is evident. He is continually taking courses and attending seminars to better his training technique. The reason he is special though is because his passion is to geniunely help his clients bodies heal and function optimally. He is driven by a greater passion than just helping clients attain the physical appearance they desire, he wants their bodies to look healthy from the inside out. His drive is so much deeper than the surface level. He is intent about enabling the nervous system to function as it was created to, so that people can get long lasting results that help them live pain free and stay that way. Not only does he train his clients, but he educates them to train themselves. I can say all these things from my own experience. Tim has taken selfless hours to invest in helping me correct my nervous system. He has helped get my body functioning and responding like it used to before I was in a horrible car accident, so that I can play soccer at my best for my last season at Campbell University. His time, effort, and care have truly been a blessing in my life!"

I have always liked to run. In Elementary school, I would race the boys in class and win every time. Middle school, I was on the cross country and track and field team. In my 20’s and 30’s, I ran many 5k races for charity events like Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, MS, Juvenile Diabetes and local events like the Cary Road Race. A lot slower in my 40’s, I wanted to get fit again. I met a personal trainer I believed in and admired. Mindy is an avid runner and has done the Boston marathon (the epitome of marathons). I trained with her to complete my first half marathon (13.1 miles). Two weeks before the event, I unfortunately was hurt training and couldn’t race. After months of therapy, I trained again with Mindy and completed the Outer Banks half marathon in Nov. 2009. It was so exhilarating!! I had caught the bug! I then worked with Mindy to run the Tobacco Road, half marathon in Mar. 2010 and the OBX half marathon again in Nov. 2010. Next she started a training group for a marathon (26.2 miles). Over 4 months, we met every Sat. morning at 6:30am to run 14, 16, 18 then 20 miles twice! That’s the farthest we ran since more than 20 miles is so taxing on your body. Then came race day – March 26th 2011 – in Washington DC – the National Marathon! With over 15,000 runners doing the half and full. It was a cold, beautiful day with the cherry blossoms blooming. Ran past the capital twice and all the monuments. What a great day! It was hard but wonderful. I finished in 5hrs 9min – very slow but I FINISHED! Next… a TRIATHALON in Aug. – need to give my legs a break!

On and Off the field... OPT has not just helped me with my performance on the football field, but it has also helped me with my performance in school. Even my social life has improved a little. One year ago, I was not even able to do one single pushup. Now, I can do at least 80 in a row! My performance on the football field has improved a lot. I am hitting harder and running faster. And, I am more built! The ladies love that! So, one year ago I made one of the best decisions of my life and that was training at OPT. Mike Vahue - Harnett Central High School (Mike is a sophomore)
Better Health! Thank you for working with me over the past year to improve my health, my flexibility, and my overall physical fitness. Even though I worked out regularly before, I was beginning to develop the slumped shoulders and rounded neck that so many people start developing in their 50s. Your focus on developing my core body strength has had a tremendous impact on my posture. My shoulders are now square and my neck is straight for the first time in years! Even more importantly, I feel good almost every day and have much more energy than in the past. I've been very impressed as you've tailored workout programs for the specific needs of my wife, both of our sons, and our daughter-in-law. The innovative workout regimens that you've taught us using kettle bells, ropes, and nontraditional exercises have improved all of our lives tremendously. Thank you! Robert Stephenson, Cary NC
I can remember it like it was yesterday. I was sitting at a school fundraiser when I heard some women talking about OPT and the wonderful training groups Mindy runs to train people for 5ks, half marathons and other races. I decided to go to a half marathon information session that Mindy was putting on. You see, I had been running for several years and ran eight to ten miles on a regular basis. At that meeting I looked at Mindy with my cocky attitude and said “No offense but I think I could run thirteen miles if I had to. Why do I need you?” Five sentences later I was handing her my credit card and signing up for my first half-marathon. The training took me to a much higher level of running and I met so many new people that quickly became my running family. I finished my half-marathon in less than two hours and was so amazed that Mindy could help me achieve my goal. I thought my achievements would end there but Mindy and the running group pressed on. I began training for my first full marathon in December with Mindy and several other members of my running family. Growing up, I was never a runner. In fact, I had asthma and used to take my inhaler before soccer games. If someone would have ever told me I was going to run a full-marathon, I would have told them they were out of their mind. The training was fantastic and I looked forward to getting my workouts every week. It forced me to push myself harder. Not only was Mindy there to tell us how far to run that week or how fast, she was also there for so much more. She provided tips on eating, chafing, running gear and most importantly, emotional support. She said to me “Susan, running is 20% physical and 80% mental” and she couldn’t have been more accurate. I crossed the finish line of the Tobacco Road Marathon on March 20th meeting both my goals. The first goal was to run from start to finish without walking and the second was to come in under four hours. I can honestly tell you that I never would have run the race or met my goals without Mindy’s expertise and her valuable friendship as well as the support and friendship of my running buddies. It has been almost a week since the big race and I look back and think to myself…I actually did it. What’s next? Susan Naylor – Fuquay Varina, NC
"Since I started working with Tim I'm not only stronger but faster, quicker and have much more knowledge about fitness and performance. Tim is great to work with and very easy to talk to. I feel like Tim focuses on a wider range of skill development than most other trainers would. Tim caters to each individual students needs. I have been very pleased while working with Tim and I know things will only get better."

"I like clarity. I like to pick up a book or an article and come away with something...sometimes just one thing...that can impact my athletes or me. Tim's book, "Becoming Bulletproof," goes well beyond "one thing." I can simply tell you this, I was laying on the carpet within seconds of reading "preset" and I was doing the simple drills that Tim describes and I was amazed to feel and see the difference in my body in seconds. The book covers a lot of ground in an interesting "give and take" fashion. What Tim has done is linked the information you might find at FMS and Kettlebells and nutrition into a simple template which gives you enough room to still enjoy the process. In fact, Tim insists that you find time to play, not just train. This book is the link between a lot of other books that say "this" and "that," but don't tie it all together. Tim is the knot in the strength and fitness community." --- Coach Dan John, author of Never Let Go
“I have been involved and worked with coaches and athletes at every level from professional to middle school for the last thirty years as well as worked with countless trainers and people in the fitness industry. In all of this time I have seen a handful of coaches and trainers who stand out in excellence in every way. Tim Anderson and Mindy Gagliardi set this standard of excellence. I highly recommend them and encourage you to learn from them as they help you meet your fitness goals or help you succeed on your chosen battlefield.”
